SPECT Single Detector System Provides Cost-Effective Point-of-Entry into Molecular Imaging

Posted on 12 Mar 2009
A new single-detector imaging scanner is a high-quality, cost-effective single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) system that can help improve clinical confidence, effectiveness, and flexibility.

Siemens Healthcare (Erlangen, Germany) announced the addition of the Symbia E single-detector imaging system to its range of Symbia family of scanners. More...
"The Symbia E is an economical point-of-entry into molecular imaging for those facilities operating under financial constraints. In addition, the Symbia E system's built-in upgradability is flexible enough to meet their growing needs over time,” said Michael Reitermann, chief executive officer, Molecular Imaging, Siemens Healthcare. "A single detector SPECT system is the perfect addition to our comprehensive SPECT portfolio. With a Symbia E, molecular imaging departments using multiple systems can offer the flexibility needed to perform basic studies, and reserve higher-end systems, such as SPECT•CT, for more advanced imaging needs.”

In light of the global economic crisis, Symbia E Single represents a high-quality economic solution for providers. Siemens has taken the advanced detector technology of the Symbia family of SPECT and SPECT•computed tomography (CT) imaging systems and made it available on the Symbia E single detector. A new generation of high-definition (HD) detectors, first introduced with the Symbia TruePoint SPECT•CT imager, provides excellent performance and is available on the new Symbia E single detector scanner. It can also be upgraded to a dual detector camera as a facility's workload necessitates.

The complete Symbia family now provides options in SPECT from a single head camera to integrated 16-slice SPECT•CT. In all, the Symbia family is a comprehensive range of systems with unprecedented upgrade possibilities and non-obsolescence protection.

Another important feature of the Symbia E is its ability to accommodate a wide range of patient sizes, and it can also be equipped with special positioning pallets for mammography. It also features a tilting detector for optimized planar imaging. With advanced imaging tools for oncology, cardiology, neurology, and general imaging, Symbia E can satisfy the needs of most institutions, and is able to grow at the same rate as clinical requirements dictate. Symbia E Single is primed to be the newest general imaging SPECT imager for cost-conscious customers who need a serious return on their investment.
