Blood Serum Biomarker Test for Parkinson's Diseases Evaluated

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 17 Sep 2007
The initial phase of an international validation study of a blood serum protein biomarker test for Parkinson's diseases has been completed.

Clinical validation studies in the United States demonstrated that the blood serum protein biomarker test was capable of distinguishing between Parkinson's disease patients and normal control subjects. More...
Further validation studies were carried out using samples provided by the University of Thessaly School of Medicine (Greece). These studies showed that the changes in the blood serum concentration of the protein biomarkers in Parkinson's disease patients were consistent with the results obtained in the United States.

Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (Houston, TX, USA), the company that developed the proteomics test for Parkinson's diseases, is a company engaged in the commercialization of protein biomarkers, pathways, and mechanisms of diseases through the development of diagnostic tests and drug targets for neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.

Steven B. Rash, chief executive officer of Power3 Medical Products, commented, This study proves we are well on our way to commercializing the first ever blood serum proteomic tests for the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. These encouraging Parkinson's test results, and the numerous validation studies that are underway for Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS], and similar neurological disorders, confirm our commitment to bringing these tests to market. We believe this test will be a major advance for patients and physicians, as it will offer a means to detect neurodegenerative diseases at their earliest stages without a painful and complicated spinal tap procedure.”
