An infectious-disease testing system, designed specifically for high-output automation in large blood banks, has been launched in Europe and other countries outside the United States.

The Quadriga BeFree System is a fully automated, high-throughput system used to screen blood for common infectious diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis. More...
The system was developed by Dade Behring (Deerfield, IL, USA), and will be used by large, mid-to high-volume blood bank laboratories to screen donated blood prior to being used for blood transfusion. This process helps to ensure that donated blood is safe for the transfusion recipient.

Features of the system, such as automated patient sample handling and verification, automated barcode identification of patient samples, and continuous monitoring of the instrument's status make the testing for infectious diseases safe and reliable.

Outside the United States, Dade Behring offers assays and analyzers using microtiter plates for infectious disease testing. Analyzers are used in both medium- to high-volume hospital laboratories. The Quadriga BeFree Systems are designed specifically for high-output automation in large blood banks.

Dade Behring is dedicated to clinical diagnostics. It offers a wide range of products, systems, and services designed to meet the day-to-day needs of laboratories. "In this industry, we have the opportunity to make a difference in the quality of life of patients while providing our laboratory customers with the innovative solutions they need,” said Jim Reid-Anderson, chairman, president, and CEO, Dade Behring. "This new product is a perfect example of meeting our customer's relevant needs and also enhancing patient care.”
