Biomarker for Neurologic Disorders

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 29 Nov 2004
Apolipoprotein J (apo-J) antibody is a biomarker that can help detect proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease, Down syndrome, transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, and other neurologic disorders.

Studies have shown that apo-J, also known as clusterin, plays an important role as a chaperone for beta amyloid protein, a key component in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. More...
Apo-J appears to influence structure and toxicity of beta amyloid as well as the accumulation of beta amyloid peptide in the brain. Apo-J is also implicated in prostate cancer, large cell lymphoma, and diabetes.

The apo-J antibody is available from Signet Laboratories, Inc. (Dedham, MA, USA), a company focusing on evidence-based medicine and committed to developing and commercializing predictive diagnostics and preventive therapies.

"Signet's new apo-J antibody, in addition to Signet's existing panel of neuroscience antibodies, gives researchers a powerful tool for gaining valuable insights into the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases,” commented Joe Bertelsen, neuroscience product manager for Signet Laboratories.
