Innovative Dressing Reduces Problematic IV Occlusions

An innovative supple protective covering maximizes continuous intravenous (IV) flow, even during patient movement.

The adhesive overlay can be lifted on demand to view and assess the IV site, thus reducing the need for reinsertion and preserving the catheter and extension tubing for further use. A foam pad splints the catheter line to minimize mechanical occlusions, and also provides site protection from inadvertent bumping on a hard surface, thus allowing patients greater freedom to move naturally.

The device also addresses the frequent problem of IV occlusion alarms going off due to random patient movement; by reducing these false alarms, valuable nursing time and undue patient concerns are minimized. Additionally, by maintaining patency, the product minimizes health risks resulting from patients not receiving their infusions, and also holds the potential to reduce risk of infection associated with IV reinsertions.
