Light-Based System Clears All Types of Acne

A new acne clearing system uses broadband light and vacuum suction to treat mild to moderate acne, with no need for numbing or cooling gels, and no anesthetic costs. More...


The Acleara acne clearing system is intended for the treatment of mild to moderate inflammatory acne, such as acne vulgaris, comedonal acne, and pustular acne and in all skin types. Using the system practitioners can treat a full face in less than 15 minutes. Deep cleaning of the pores is achieved by extracting accumulated sebaceous material and targeted heating of sebaceous glands, using photodynamic action. This activates endogenous porphyrins that destroy the acnes and reduces sebum production. Upon completion of the treatment, the pilosebaceous structures are removed and the skin returns to normal. The Acleara acne clearing system is a product of Palomar Medical Technologies (Burlington, MA, USA), and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"Many who suffer from acne cannot tolerate or do not want to have their acne treated by drugs. The Acleara system is an excellent alternative for consumers and physicians alike,” said Joseph Caruso, CEO of Palomar Medical technologies.

"I have performed over 15,000 treatments over five years using a number of different technologies to treat acne,” said Robert Berger, MD, an associate professor of dermatology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (Baltimore, MD, USA). "The Acleara system has proven more effective, less painful, and it delivers superior results as compared to any previous technologies I have tried in treating active acne.”
