Se cree que estas tecnologías nuevas para las pruebas de genética clínica suministren ventajas significativas sobre los métodos actuales.

Roche Diagnostics, Ltd. (Burgess Hill, RU) anunció que apoyará al Centro de Investigación Biomédica Integral Oxford (OxBRC), una sociedad entre los Hospitales NHS (Salud Nacional del RU) Oxford Radcliffe Trust (Oxford, RU) y la Universidad de Oxford (RU), en el desarrollo de soluciones que permitan mejores pruebas genéticas y citogenéticas. Mediante el uso de tecnología se secuenciación de siguiente generación de 454 hileras de secuenciación y alta densidad de Roche NimbleGen, el Oxford BRC podrá trabajar sobre soluciones mejoradas para el análisis de enfermedades genéticas.

El Oxford BRC busca tomar la investigación tradicional y usarla para los pacientes en el punto de atención (POC). Muestras documentadas aClinically para enfermedades seleccionadas, serán analizadas en tres áreas: secuenciación de varios genes conocidos por mutaciones familiares privadas (454 Sequencing), tamizaje de mutaciones en varios genes (454 Sequencing e hileras de captura NimbleGen Sequence) y la identificación de genes y regiones con desequilibrios genéticos (hileras NimbleGen CGH).

Manfred Baier, jefe de Ciencias Aplicadas de Roche, dijo: "Estamos muy interesados de evaluar aún más el potencial de nuestras tecnologías para aplicaciones médicas. Durante los últimos pocos años, hemos visto muchas publicaciones en revista científicas de alto impacto, que ilustran de manera impresionante el potencial de las hileras 454 Sequencing y NimbleGen para analizar las enfermedades”.
