Imaging Agent for Cardiac MRI

An imaging agent for use with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is designed to identify the regions of the heart that are at risk of ischemic damage.

The new agent provides a way to simplify the diagnostic pathway for evaluating heart disease and replaces multiple tests with a single, noninvasive, cost-effective procedure, says the agent's developer, Eagle Vision Pharmaceutical Corp. (Chester Springs, PA, USA). Eagle Vision believes MRI enhanced with EVP 1001-1 will distinguish areas of the heart that are receiving inadequate blood supply with unique sensitivity, providing high resolution, 3-D images that define which of these areas are likely to benefit from treatment and which will not. The company has announced receipt of a grant (SBIR Phase 2) from the Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support advanced studies of the agent, called EVP 1001-1.

"We are pleased with the continued support of our programs by the NIH that validates the potential of our proprietary technology to make a difference in people's lives,” said Dr. Peter Seoane, vice president of R&D. EVP 1001-1 will be the focus of a presentation at the annual meeting of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, in Scotland.
