Intraoperative 3-D Imaging System

A new intraoperative, mobile C-arm provides real-time 3-D imaging in one rotating 190o orbital movement and also offers conventional 2-D imaging.

During a motorized, orbital rotation of 190o with the C-arm, a defined set of projections at fixed steps is recorded. More...
From those images, a high-resolution, isotropic 3-D dataset is generated and is immediately available after completion of the orbital rotation. At the same time, arbitrary multiplanar reconstructions (MPRs) or shaded surface displays (SSDs) can be executed and visualized. The system, called Siremobil Iso-C3D, is the product of Siemens Medical Engineering (Erlangen, Germany).

The Siremobil is best suited for intraoperative use in orthopedics and trauma surgery, for the imaging of bones and joints of the upper and lower extremities and cervical spine. The system enables surgeons to view the anatomically precise reconstruction of joint surfaces near complex fractures as well as the exact positioning of screws and implants.

"This system and its capabilities can increase the level of quality and safety during surgical interventions,” said Lynne Groves, surgery product manager. "Surgeons can immediately access the detailed, 3-D information they need, allowing them to operate with much greater confidence than was previously possible with 2-D functionality.”
