An innovative management system allows airway control during thoracic surgical procedures requiring lung isolation. More...

The VivaSight-DL is a proprietary, single-use disposable medical device, consisting of a dual lumen airway-ventilation tube with an integrated continuous high-resolution video airway imaging system that permits airway control and one-lung isolation during ventilation in patients undergoing thoracic, cardiac, vascular, or esophageal surgeries. During lung isolation, temporary visualization of the patient airway is achieved with a fiberoptic bronchoscope while the patient is ventilated and the target lung isolated.

The VivaSight-DL thus offers excellent monitoring capabilities and total control of airway management during every phase of thoracic surgical procedures by facilitating simple and efficient intubations, and ensuring visualization of the vocal chords and trachea and continuous observation of the carina. The device also allows for monitoring and detection of accumulating mucosal secretions and enables rapid response in the event of bronchial blocker displacement. The VivaSight-DL is a product of ETView Medical (Misgav, Israel), and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“We anticipate significant clinical interest for this innovative technology in the markets where VivaSight-DL is cleared for commercial distribution,” said Bill Edelman, CEO of ETView Medical. “With both VivaSight-SL and VivaSight-DL available in the US, ETView can now offer a complete airway management solution for 100% of lung-isolation surgeries.”

Intraoperative surgical maneuvers often require repeated imaging and partial blocking of the airway to maintain lung isolation. It is estimated that over 1.9 million lung isolation procedures are conducted worldwide annually. Combining an airway ventilation tube with integrated continuous high-resolution airway imaging eliminates the need for ancillary fiberoptic bronchoscope imaging during these procedures.
