The Epiphany injector system is intended for insertion of designated new technology intraocular lens (NTIOL) lenses. The single use inserter offers flexibility, enabling the use of either the twist or push insertion techniques. The system provides for planar delivery of the lens into the eye via controlled insertion through a 2.8 mm incision, and ensures a sterile pathway into the eye, assisting in the correct placement of the lens leading haptic. The Epiphany injector system is a manufactured by STAAR Surgical (Nidau, Switzerland), and is intended for use with the company's Affinity collagen copolymer lens (Collamer) three-piece NTIOL and the Elastimide 3-piece or single piece silicone NTIOL.

"The Epiphany Injector System is an important extension of STAAR Japan's expertise in the area of preloaded delivery systems for foldable IOLs which have been very successful in the Japanese market,” said Barry G. Caldwell, President and CEO of STAAR Surgical. "This product will enhance the ability of surgeons to accurately deliver the Collamer Three-Piece NTIOL into the eye.”

An NTIOL is defined as an IOL that has been determined--for medical reimbursement purposes--by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to posses specific clinical advantages and superiority over existing IOLs, with regard to reduced risk of intraoperative or postoperative complication or trauma, accelerated postoperative recovery, reduced induced astigmatism, improved postoperative visual acuity, more stable postoperative vision, or other comparable clinical advantages.
