New Microscopes Offer More Efficiency in Medical Applications

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 28 Nov 2007
Revolutionary stereomicroscopes, new research and diagnosis microscopes, and microscope systems for microsurgery will help research scientists, surgeons, pathologists and doctors in diverse medical applications.

The new Leica M205 C breaks through the previous optical resolution limits of stereomicroscopy by incorporating FusionOpti technology, which takes advantage of a neurological phenomenon. More...
The left beam path produces great depth of field, while the right beam path provides a high-resolution image. The human brain then combines the best information from both channels to compose an image with enhanced resolution and depth of field. The Leica M205 C stereomicroscope has a fully apochromatically corrected 20.5:1 zoom.

The Leica M525 OH4 surgical microscope, particularly suitable for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and spine specialists, offers an extended reach and precise, harmoniously balanced movement. A combination of Leica OptiChrome optics, 300-watt xenon illumination, and fully automatic lamp changer ensures high-contrast images with great field depth, while the Leica BrightCare feature automatically regulates the light to the optimum intensity. An AutoIris feature prevents overheating of the tissue outside the field of view.

The Leica DMD108 system offers a network solution for pathologists, integrating a microscope, camera, and personal computer (PC) in one compact system for excellent diagnostic image quality and convenient documentation, presentation, and data exchange facilities. The microscope combines the benefits of digital imaging with manual sample navigation to significantly speed the pathologist's daily work routine, linking the user with colleagues in the institute and experts around the world. An additional monitor or a high-resolution beamer can be connected for training and discussion purposes. Images can also be directly emailed to consult colleagues that are not linked to the network.

The Leica M205 C, M525 OH4, and DMD108 microscopes are manufactured by Leica Microsystems (Wetzlar, Germany).
