During a Fresh Start Surgery Weekend in January, free diagnosis and surgery were performed simultaneously on more than 400 children in Bombay (India), San Diego (CA, USA), and Johnson City (TN, USA). More...

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing free reconstructive surgery to children and young adults who are afflicted with physical deformities. Children who receive the surgery would not otherwise have the financial means to afford it. In order to extend the gifts of surgery, the chapter in India was only recently opened, under the leadership of Dr. Ashok Gupta, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

Since 1991, volunteer doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, dentists, and other medical professionals have performed thousands of reconstructive surgeries on children and young people from across the United States and around the world under the Fresh Start program. According to recent statistics, more than 80,000 children are born with congenital deformities and another 45,000 are injured with serious burns covering over 25% of their bodies each year in the United States alone.
