DICOM Version of Osteoporosis Imaging System

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 19 Dec 2003
A software-based imaging system for the screening, diagnosing, and monitoring of osteoporosis is now available in a DICOM version for use with computed radiography (CR) equipment.

Called OsteoGram, the system is designed to increase efficiency by allowing radiologists to test for osteoporosis while using the same equipment they use for routine x-rays. More...
Results from an ongoing clinical trial conducted at the nonprofit OMC Clinical Research Center (Beverly Hill, USA) have shown that the DICOM version of the system achieves high correlation to the film-based counterpart. This correlation rate was achieved while the OsteoGram was integrated with the CR system of Orex (Yokneam, Israel). OsteoGram is the product of CompuMed, Inc. (Los Angeles, CA, USA). The DICOM version was introduced at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago (IL, USA).

"The preliminary study results reaffirm that the OsteoGram will add significant value to our CR systems by providing a cost-effective, around-the-clock osteoporosis screening and diagnostic solution,” said Hillel Bachrach, president and CEO of Orex.
