Cloud-Based Medical Imaging Helps Eliminate 85% of Disc Storage

A US level II trauma hospital now shares medical images with more than 12 other state of Alabama healthcare providers, improving the throughput of patient care.

Baptist Health (Montgomery, AL, USA) is now eliminating 85% of CDs by storing and sharing medical images in real time through Accelarad’s (Atlanta, GA, USA), secure cloud-based medical image exchange platform. More...
Central Alabama’s healthcare leader and one of only five level II trauma facilities in the state, Baptist Health has been an Accelarad customer since March 2013.

Accelarad’s platform allows physicians and patients to access medical images in real-time from any Internet-connected computer or mobile device, similar to images uploaded to a social network. Before implementing Accelarad, Baptist Health manually stored and shared medical images on CDs. Frequently, these CDs were physically transported from referring hospitals hundreds of miles away, delaying patient care. Moreover, 20%–30% of these CDs contained corrupt files, forcing patients to be rescanned.

“Accelarad has dramatically improved our continuity of patient services, particularly in trauma cases,” said Dr. Julio Rios, emergency room physician at Baptist Health. “In the ER, we now have a patient’s medical images before he/she arrives at our facility, which helps the throughput of patient care. We can have the patient’s room, the operating room and our medical staff fully prepared to treat the patient before we’ve even seen the individual, which makes a life-saving difference.”

As other central Alabama state healthcare facilities and physicians learned of Baptist Health’s partnership with Accelarad, they began requesting access to the image-sharing platform. Today, Baptist Health is connected with 15 other regional providers. These hospitals and physicians now can immediately access medical images to facilitate trauma transfers, specialty consults, and patient image requests.

“We’re pleased to see that Baptist Health is quickly experiencing positive results from our cloud-based medical image-sharing network,” said Willie Tillery, cofounder and CEO of Accelarad. “Our technology has a record of helping save lives by increasing the speed at which healthcare professionals can share images, which is particularly important for trauma centers like Baptist Health where physicians are routinely faced with making quick, critical decisions about patient care.”

Accelarad, creators of SeeMyRadiology dot com, makes it simple for healthcare organizations, physicians, and patients to securely view, manage, and share medical images and documents online. Intuitive and in tune with healthcare workflows, Accelarad’s scalable platform eliminates the costs, redundancies and administrative headaches of outmoded image transfer technology.

The company’s cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform enables collaboration by allowing users to access and share medical images and documents from Internet-connected computers or mobile devices 24/7. Accelarad’s multitenant architecture supports current imaging requirements, while also strategically positioning healthcare organizations to address the ongoing challenges of patient-centered, coordinated care.
