Micro Therapeutics to Acquire Dendron

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 10 Sep 2002
To improve the company's position in the interventional neurology market, Micro Therapeutics, Inc. More...
(MTI, Irvine, CA, USA) has agreed to acquire Dendron GmbH (Bochum, Germany) for up to US$40 million, including earn-out contingent payments.

Dendron is a developer and manufacturer of neurovascular-focused products. Its line includes a broad array of detachable embolic coils for the treatment of brain aneurysms, all of which have received the CE Mark. The company's newest product, the variable detachable system (VDS), provides for coil deployment in what Dendron and MTI believe is a safer, more efficient way than current systems. Eventually, MTI intends to distribute Dendron's products in the United States through MTI's direct sales force.

"This acquisition advances our strategic objective of establishing MTI as a premier provider of minimally invasive devices for the treatment of neurovascular disorders,” said James Corbett, chairman of MTI. "Dendron's state-of-the-art detachable coils complement our Onyx and neuro-access device product lines, providing MTI with a broader product offering and the opportunity to leverage our worldwide marketing, sales, and distribution system.”
