Nerve Cuff to Be Distributed in Europe

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 07 Feb 2002
Exclusive rights to distribute the SaluBridge nerve cuff in Spain, Italy, and Portugal has been granted by SaluMedica (Atlanta, GA, USA) to MBA Grupo (Gijon, Spain), a large healthcare distribution network in Europe. More...
The nerve cuff has received the CE Mark.

The nerve cuff, made from Salubria biomaterial, is a flexible tube that acts as a protective environment to create a conduit for axonal growth across a nerve gap for peripheral nerve repair. Salubria is classified as a hydrogel. SaluMedica says it is highly biocompatible and contains water in similar proportions to human tissue. In addition, it is soft and compliant yet strong and wear-resistant, which makes it suitable for an implant and other medical applications. SaluMedica is now developing a knee cartilage replacement based on the same material.

"The SaluBridge nerve cuff represents a breakthrough, allowing hand and neurosurgeons to repair nerve injuries in a much shorter time than current therapies,” noted David Ku, M.D., president and CEO of SaluMedica.
