Posted on 16 Apr 2019
An artificial intelligence (AI) powered region of interest (ROI) radiation exposure reduction solution for interventional X-ray imaging has received clearance from the US FDA. More...
The solution named FluoroShield has been developed by Omega Medical Imaging (Sanford, FL, USA) in conjunction with its technology partner IKOMED Technologies (Vancouver, BC Canada). Omega Medical Imaging designs, manufactures, delivers, and supports Interventional X-Ray Imaging devices for hospitals and healthcare facilities around the globe. IKOMED Technologies is a medical device company developing novel medical solutions based on proprietary technology.

FluoroShield is available only on Omega Medical Imaging’s Flat Panel detector CS-series product lines. It combines the power of AI, an ultra-fast collimator and the world’s most advanced image processing to deliver a ROI solution that has shown to reduce radiation exposure up to ~84%, seamlessly helping interventional clinicians to reach their ALARA goals. According to the company, the FluoroShield system utilizes AI to minimize X-ray dose to patients and staff, and uses TruBlock technology to completely block radiation. It delivers maximum radiation reduction, while optimizing workflow and achieves NextLevel image quality.

“FluoroShield is a critical piece of our innovation pipeline of solutions aimed at helping our partners deliver the best in patient outcomes and efficiencies,” said Brian Fleming, President of Omega Medical Imaging.
